no scrubs

Every time we go to Connecticut and visit my cousins there who work in the medical field, I always end up getting convinced to take a different turn in my career path. This is way too far a twist and turn I should say from being an Interior Designer/Architect to being a nurse? Yeah, why not, right? In this twisted world anything and everything is possible. I am not intending to work as a full time registered nurse or something, but something in between. This means it would be something that has to do with the medical world, but I would still prefer working in front of the computer or a paper and pen wouldn’t be so bad either. Do you know what makes this really interesting for me all the more is the fact that if that time comes, I can finally wear some scrubs! Haha! Those cherokee scrub pants seem pretty stylish yet cozy to me, even for a sleeping attire. Have you seen the latest designs yet? They are way too hip now, more in fashion, bright and colorful. You would even mistake it for a daily going out attire.
I specifically find the landau scrubs pretty more feminine with it’s wrap and empire waist style and bright with interesting prints and colors to choose from even leopard prints!  But for the more conservative types though, there’s the landau medical scrubs that comes in pullover styling scrub top with modern waist scrub pants which isn’t so bad at all. It’s something I’d love to be caught in sleeping!

Bella Salad at Jordan’s

bella-salad

Lettuce, Onions, Tomatoes, Olives, Peppers, Carrots, Feta Cheese, Cucumbers and Grilled Chicken strips with Greek Tzatziki Dressing on a pita bowl of sorts…yum! and healthy too! we had this at Jordan’s Grille in Connecticut.  it’s quite small yet cozy and they serve delicious pizzas and salads.
…this salad i suspect can be made any which way you want with any which ingredient you like. the most important ingredient in it though is the dressing…and i plucked a recipe which seems to be the closest to what i had from another website so i can journal it so i can make my own soon! yum! and again…yum!

1 cup nonfat plain yogurt
1 English cucumber (seeds removed)
2 cloves garlic
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1-1/2 tsp dill herb blend seasoning
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp light whipped salad dressing
2 individual packages of Splenda
Salt & Pepper to taste

Directions

In a double square of cheese cloth, place the yogurt and gather edges at the top.
Gently squeeze the excess water from the yogurt.
Place drained yogurt back into cup and rinse cheese cloth. Peel and remove seeds from the cucumber and finely dice.
If you have a mini food processor/chopper, cut cucumber in 1-1/2″ pieces and pulse several times until diced.
Using the same cheese cloth, place diced cucumber in the center and gather edges, forming a ball.
Squeeze excess water from cucumber and set aside.
Mince garlic.
In a bowl whisk together the olive oil, lemon, and dill. Add yogurt, miracle whip, cucumber and garlic.
Stir in Splenda and salt & pepper to taste.
Mix thoroughly and place in air-tight container.

get your home secured

PhotobucketI remember when we moved here in Massachusetts, my landlord was laughing at me because every time he drops by to fix something in the house he would see me locking up the front door as he enters and then locking up the back door when he goes out that way. He even said and I quote, “this is not New York, this is a very safe neighborhood”.  For me on the other hand, being careful is of utmost importance even in the safest place, right?

This is where a home security system comes in. For our safety and protection, not just the house but of our personal things and most importantly of our loved ones, getting one would lessen our fear from all the danger that may happen anytime. This does not protect us only while we sleep but 24 hour days.  It is very easy to use and install. It has emergency buttons for calling the police and fire department and there’s even an alarm whenever a door or window gets opened.

Food Friday: chocowalnut cups

chocowalnut-1

… the second to all 3 attempts to the cups/petites series/marathon i did before Christmas. still another recipe from Stel…a variation of the walnut and hazelnut petites.

..this one for me turned out just fine, not exactly something i will look forward to making again or giving away again…:] good but there are other better variations, so i’ll stick to those. i guess you might say that i am not really a chocolate lover, hence the preference to other sweets. the hazelnut version had the most raving and i quote my niece…’tita Ces, you can open up your own bakeshop now!’ teehee! that is by far the best Christmas greeting i got so far!:] thanks, pau!

chocowalnut-2
i will be posting the recipe on my other website soon! i know! i have a lot to post over there and it has piled up already!!!
anyway…
..quite a late entry for FF-choco-walnuts

Weekend Snapshot: Connecticut minute

lighted-deer

again! we celebrated Christmas eve and a few days after with our cousins in Connecticut. in spite of the fact that it is supposedly our first Christmas here in Massachusetts, I just thought spending it with relatives instead of just the 4 us would be more merry.

lighted-elmo
..we got really busy having fun and resting and eating that i almost forgot to take pictures and these are the only decent ones i got.

hurricane-lamp

there’s quite a few more that i will post soon, but i love this hurricane lamp photo in her collection of Moroccan furniture most among others from my cousins house. If I were to design my next house it will also be Moroccan inspired adorned with Moroccan furniture and accessories. taken on a more relaxing day while watching tv with my cousins.
…an entry for WS-CT…Have a great week ahead and a joyous and prosperous new year to all you weekenders! let me take this opportunity too to thank you for visiting my website all throughout the year!!!

planters

There is nothing like living in a well designed house from furniture to curtains, paint and other finishes even to the most minute detail such as fixtures and accessories like planters or plant boxes. This very small detail can add up to the beauty of any area in your house such as the living room, dining room, kitchen and even your bathroom and bedroom.

I thought I have addressed this issue a long time ago when I bought a slatted wood or bamboo detailed pair in a nearby store, but it turned out to be a disaster since I did not consider the function of the entire product.  As it emitted a nasty stain on our wooden floor when I tried to water the plant in it! I never thought this is a big factor to consider when buying indoor planters. Of course the finishes vary depending on the function and specific location where the plant will be located. I prefer wood, more specifically dark stained wood when it comes to my indoor decor, but the function and build should also be considered, now I realize.

Even when purchasing window boxes and outdoor garden planters, the finish and its utility must be taken into account. Planterixchange is an online shop which caters to this and has the widest array of high quality yet affordable residential and commercial planters. For your individual needs or commercial requirements as a builder or owner, they provide products with a fully customized planter solution at low prices from indoor planters, window box planters, planter troughs, pots, tubs, urns and terrariums to water tanks and fountains, planter pedestals and even all planter accessories in various finishes, function and sizes.

Lasang Pinoy, Sundays: Noche Buena

churros-con-chocolate
Merry Christmas again to all! I Hope you had a most filling Noche Buena just like we did here in Connecticut with my cousins. Just another quick announcement…
For this week’s LaPiS…it’s all about your delicious Noche Buena spread!
This on the other hand is not part of our Noche Buena. since this is pre-posted and I am not sure if I can possibly post while we’re in CT, speaking of which…it’s a good thing that we have our car insurance updated since it is quite a long 3 and a half hour drive there. it’s all worth it but it’s better to be ready when the need arises right?…i am posting up this photo of this Churros con chocolate, which is something that I remember we always have all throughout the cold holiday season, most especially after simbang gabi [midnight mass] back in the Philippines other than puto-bumbong and bibingka or rice cakes.
The churros was home-made by M, as well as the hot cocoa using Antonio Pueo tablea [chocolate tablets] thickened by peanut butter.
Lapis-noche-buena is a weekly FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY meme, Pinoy style! Enjoy the rest of your holidays peeps!!!

next on the list

As soon as I find the perfect living room set, the next on my list would be the perfect bed. We already have a king size bed, but!…and that’s a big but! It is just a simple mattress and bed frame that fits all 4 of us when needed, which is everyday? haha! The kids in spite of having their own rooms are still sleeping with us, which I am also more comfortable with. The fact that I am just an inch away from them during the wee hours of the night is something I feel the safest for them, other than I can’t seem to sleep well without them beside me. All these has its drawback though and it’s me who suffers the most in terms of physical stress. My kids have been accustomed to sleeping as close to me as they can be, sometimes even sleeping all over me! I like that too except for the back pain that I get in the middle of the night and worse in the morning.

This is why I need the most comfortable bed soon.  Otherwise I just might have chronic back pains sooner or later.  This is something I realize now.  If it comes to bed it is better to invest on something that might be more expensive as long as it gives you the best sleep even with 2 clingy kids beside you, not to mention a clingy hubby too!:]  Another drawback of this set up and the fact that we have a king size bed is that our room is becoming smaller and smaller and so I am also considering storage beds, of course without throwing away the aesthetic aspects of it as well. You can be most comfortable physically on a bed but knowing myself, I will never be comfortable sleeping on something that has no designer appeal either.

on holiday mode

…i have been off from blogging for a few days now and i guess you might say i miss it. i know most of you do too:]. and i just remembered i haven’t really made a particular post to greet you all a very Merry Christmas!!! a bit delayed , well a day late…but as they say it’s better late than never! So I wish you all a very happy holidays! I hope you are all having a fabulous time spending your vacation, just like we are here in Connecticut. We’re going back home though tomorrow, especially because we left all our outdoor lighting on…yikes!
but there’s still more things to celebrate…ones that I will post on soon!:]
