online shopping idea

An old friend recently asked if I’m interested in putting up an online business. Something that has got to do with my website, of course. I told him, I am in fact thinking of doing something like that sometime in the future. It would also be something that tickles my fancy. Exactly what? That I will have to leave in your imagination for now. Part of the said conversation was the process on how to go about this bright idea and that includes the question on how to get an ecommerce software for the purpose of putting up a shopping cart on this site. I have alwasy been curious on how they are set up and how it goes with the assurance of making shopping online safe and fun. Imagine an online shop around here with a fabulous shopping cart! I am so getting all excited now!

snow and driving

…how timely! i am scheduled for a road test on thursday and guess what…we are expecting 4-6″ of snow tomorrow. then it turns into sleet. now that is scary. it only means the roads will be slippery, a bit dangerous by thursday. awww! i just hope this is reason enough to consider if ever i make some mistakes? :] …i need all the luck i can get, since i don’t exactly want to have it rescheduled. i just want to get this over and done with so i can finish packing up for our saturday move! why can’t they just convert my NY license???

scary calls

Up until now we never ever answer a call from our landline due to all the telemarketers and other scary calls that we have been receiving ever since we had it hooked up. Unless it is a recognized number or somebody’s name whom we know like a friend or relative, that’s the only time that we pick up. But I make sure that I jot down the other unrecognized numbers and check them out after through the Wiki Phone Numbers website where one can track down a particular number with it’s area code to locate the number. You can even type in the full telephone number to get the information you need.

some light

Most of you would know that my mom recently passed away due to aneurysm. Up until now, this is such a tragic truth that I together with my siblings have to deal with. Mostly because no one among the 3 of us were there when it happened. In fact nobody was there at all, and it must have been hours until somebody knew. I personally cannot imagine how it all happened, what caused it, how she felt, how long it took for it to take her away from all of us. In spite of her hypertension for years, this is the very first ever attack and just like that, she’s gone. Looking back, I can’t help but feel that I could’ve done something. Just a simple reminder for her to take it slow because she is such an active person. Maybe if I have been more knowledgeable with it’s symptoms, simple signs, some ideas about an enlarged heart, the effects of too much stress and anything that has got to do with her condition…I might have helped. With this website that I found, I hope it helps me bring some light to this slowly but surely.

yema

yema
….i just can’t help posting this. this was my initial idea for Lasang Pinoy, Sundays Eye CANDY theme. As luck would have it, we were only able to visit the Filipino store the afternoon after i posted he announcement. so i had to make do with what i had on hand…fruit-tella. this yema is the ultimate Pinoy sweet confection made with creamy milk and sugar, lots of ‘em, inside and out! now the out is the hardest to pull off, the success of sugar candies depends on so many factors…

Candies are formed by adding sugar to water, called a sugar solution, and boiling the mixture to a codified temperature or density that ranges from 215 to 356 degrees F, measured with a Candy Thermometer. This high heat dissolves the sugar, evaporates the water and breaks apart the sugar’s molecules. As a result, you get a greater concentration of the sugar, eventually reaching a supersaturation of the sugar molecules in the water.

..and that is what i am still reluctant to get my hands on. so i settled with the next possible option, get store bought yema’s! yum!

golden glow

Have you seen the Golden Globes awards night? The actresses and their made-up looks are simply lovely. I especially love the nude look that most of the ladies donned that night. I wonder how made-up can look this amazing with very light shades of shimmering pinks, peaches and silvers and golds. This is the kind of make-up that I like personally especially when it comes to eye makeup. When it comes to beautifying the face with cosmetics, I feel that a simple shade on the lips does the trick for me but I also find enhancing the eyes a little bit helps too, especially with my chinky eyes. I want it plain and simple though, as simple as a shade or two.

I have never been into eye shadows and eye liners, until the latest fad asked for it and I started wearing them with just the basic palettes…with dark brown eye liner and sometimes black, and a little shimmer of gold or silver on a daily basis and if it’s a somewhat special occasion, I add a brush or two of black mascara. This is how I sometimes manage to change my look from day time office to evening meet up with friends, cocktails or a formal gig. That was back in the days. Now that I am a stay at home mom, I rarely put on make-up anymore. Bringing the kids to and from school and my daily breakfast or lunch over at Panera doesn’t necessarily require me to get that enhanced look anyway. So a simple lipstick alone really makes me feel made up as I step out of the house.

WS: Pho and a squirrel

pho
…sunday lunch at Pho Hoa. M’s ultimate fave soup, Beef Pho. a traditional Vietnamese dish with thinly sliced meat and rice-noodle swimming in delicious soup flavored with asian spices.  it’s a hint for me to start making some myself. although it is fairly priced at $8 for a large bowl, i still think home-made will save us some $$$ still, huh? considering that it has become a weekly craving for us now:]

squirrel
…i caught a glimpse of that cute little squirrel comfortably nestled atop a branch on a breezy day as i passed by my dining room window.  instinctively, i rushed to get my camera ready and take a snap! that’s the nearest zoom my lens can take, awww!

healthy lifestyle

One of the may New Year’s resolution that I should really be more conscientious about is to start living a healthy and clean lifestyle. This includes but is not limited to my eating habits. Aside from the fact that I have been drinking too much soda lately seduced by the bottles lurking in the fridge that M buys weekly, we haven’t been eating our greens and seafood too and that is not exactly a good idea, I know.  We have been so caught up in anything and everything we have our hands and minds on that we almost always have to-go’s and other quick fix meals.  It is a good thing though that my little boy loves to snack on baby carrots both in school and here at home.  This is the only veggie that he eats, for now at least.  I on the other hand, am into tomatoes.  Be it on pasta, stews or salads.   This lycopene is a good antioxidant and beneficial to one’s health.

I miss eating my salads and I have found this fresh tender ruby reds, feta and watermelon salad very appealing. Here’s how you do it:

For the Dressing: whisk 1 minced garlic clove, 1 minced shallot, 1/4 Tbsp white balsamic vinegar, 3 Tbsp honey, 1 tsp ground black pepper, 1 tsp salt, 2 Tbsp parsley, chopped, 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil, 1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice until well mixed. Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.

For the Salad:
In a large salad bowl, combine 1 package fresh express tender ruby reds or your favorite lettuce variety, flesh of 1 seedless watermelon, diced into 1″ cube, 1 small sweet white onion, 1/4″ thick julienne plus 6 small radishes, thinly sliced.

Drizzle desired amount of dressing and toss.
Serve onto 6 individual salad dishes.
Crumble 3 oz feta cheese, atop each individual salad.
Add freshly ground black pepper, as desired.

Lasang Pinoy, Sundays: eye Candy

eye-candy

…i was thinking of posting a more eye candy-ish candy suitable to both the title and the theme, but i didn’t get the chance to buy some before today. i hope this one is eye candy enough for you!:]

CANDY

1: crystallized sugar formed by boiling down sugar syrup
2 a: a confection made with sugar and often flavoring and filling b: a piece of such confection
3: something that is pleasant or appealing in a light or frivolous way
[source:Merriam Webster]

This fruit-tella candies were from my sister who used to work with the makers of the said confection along with some other famous chews…she brought it here last August and yes, we still have some left. The kids love this, especialy the strawberry variant.

As for the photography side…i could’ve deleted that blurry green object on the left side to make this photo a bit better, right? but i try to post unadulterated photos as much as i can without any photoshop tinkering beyond resizing and adding texts…so, my bad. or i should not have included that MAXX candy in the first place, huh? another fave of the kids. we usually go out of our way to grab some packs from the Filipino store for these.

lapis-eye-candy is a weekly FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY meme, PINOY style! let’s go chewing!!! munch, munch, munch!
