RT: my Holland Cheese

vday-breakfast
…i might have gone overboard and so into all the heart-shaped themed memes recently, as evident in our Valentine’s day breakfast and pre-Vday dinner. this breakfast is just your ordinary all American fare composed primarily of bacon and eggs, toast with the heart-shaped Holland cheese, coffee and orange juice.

holland-cheese
the CHEESE, i used though is just one of the 3 cheeses sent my way by a very sweet lady all the way from…where else? Holland! Tita Thess, through the kindness of her aunt from Las Vegas. thanks again! hmmm, Vegas vacations must be good at this time of year, eh?
anyway, this sharp sort of smokey herb infused slice is the tops among the 2 that we’ve tried. ahem, ahem…:] as we speak, it’s all gone! i have the Baby Gouda with cumin yet to anticipate next.

Lasang Pinoy, Sundays: i ♥ FOOD

love-birds
LOVE BIRDS

…as Rachael Ray coined this dish. the  reason? obviously, LOVE is for the heart-shaped fillo or puff pastry atop the chicken breast inside for the BIRDS part [my take, boneless/skinless thighs].

[HOW-TO ]

…I seasoned the birds with salt, pepper and rosemary or any spiCe of your liking. layered with a slice of fontina or gruyere [in my case, one of the very special Holland cheeses sent my way by titaThesserie!, thanks!] and a slather of fig preserves. it is then wrapped up by the fillo and topped with another layer of fillo cut-out into hearts, a little egg wash to seal the edges and add gloss. and finally, popped in the oven @ 400deg F for about 12 minutes or until it turns golden brown.

pre-v-day-dinner
…our pre-Valentine’s Day dinner. it has been our tradition to celebrate the big day slightly off the 14th, be it before or after. so i decided to make it last night, the 13th for this event. M deosn’t have the slightest idea that I was preparing something special and just imagine the shock on his face when he saw the dining table all dolled up…unknowingly on my part, he also took the cue to grab some flowers for the ladies in the family…great minds, eh?

with some grilled fresh asparagus on the side, this lovebirds was perfectly paired with delicious and spiCy Carbonara, a glass [or two] of Blanc Sauvignon capped with some fresh strawberries for dessert, just to keep it simple and easy on the pocket too. [i'm still waiting for that mixer, then i'll do that special after-Valentine's day dessert!]
…now that’s what i consider a lovely dine-in dinner…that simply resonates LOVE, in itself and my love affair with FOOD!

For this week’s lapis-i-heart-food…it’s all about luscious Valentine’s Day food, be it anything heart-shaped or your favorite food.  your V-day spread or just about anything that’s got something to do with your love for food.
LaPiS is a weekly themed FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY meme, Pinoy style! Happy HEARTS DAY! it would’ve been nice to celebrate Vday in a lovely exotic island though, huh? just make sure that you have travel insurance especially during these times…

Applebee’s Grilled Shrimp N Spinach Salad

applebees-spinach-salad
We must have had an Ihop overload already that this is the second time we chose Applebee’s again over the former. During the last two occasions, I had steaks that I decided to have a very light and healthy salad instead.  A plateful of crunchy baby spinach packed with scrumptious shrimp grilled into perfection and enrobed with a sweet and tangy bacon vinaigrette!  Yum!  I especially loved the crunch that the toasted almonds and crisp bacon bits toppings offer, that blends well with the  fresh red peppers and red onions.  Every bit of ingredient is perfectly proportioned to capture that one [or more] perfect bite.
I am just glad I ordered the regular plate at $9.99 instead of the half-size which is priced at a little over a dollar less only and yes, every little bit glided smoothly inside my starved belly.:] in half the time I expected to finish my lovely salad. Refreshing!

the problem with moving, part deux

…and you know what else s—s in moving? i am still relying on free wifi until now! it is a good thing that there’s one, yes. but it just doesn’t make sense that Verizon promises to make moving simpler but it isn’t after all. well the internet could not have been their fault since it is the telephone line in the house that seems to be having problems, but the cable? oh yes, we are supposedly enjoying cable for a week now, as promised. but guess what? the guys apparently got lost! and so a rescheduled installation is due until tomorrow…*cross-fingers*!

the problem with moving

it’s more than a week since we moved but until now, i still have a handful of boxes to unpack. i think i may consider this move as the hardest because we had less time to do the packing. hence, not all boxes are properly marked…making it more difficult to unpack. and the mere unloading was also a bit of a pain, well a whole lot of pain i should say, because i initially planned on designating the boxes in its proper location, which…as you might have guessed already did not happen. there were misplaced boxes, garbage bags and furniture all over the place. it was time consuming and makes it harder since i had to carry them from one place to the other. haaay! anyway…i sure hope that in due time, this new place will be as good as it can be…so far, we’ve accomplished the kitchen, dining and living areas…parts of the bedrooms except for the clothes and accessories and i mean toys lots of toys..and toiletries, lots of toiletries…shoes, lots!!! ayayay!

on invitations and style

Being a graduate of a design related field which is Architecture and having honed my skills working as an Interior Designer as well for years, has been a great tool for me to develop an almost palpable eye for beauty, humility aside. This is very much prevalent in my choices be it in furniture, even food, outfits and accessories. More often than not, they are out of the ordinary because I am the kind of person who do not conform to what everyone has.  On the contrary, I try to be my own self.   Even in small details such as choosing my own wedding, my kids birthday or even special holiday invitations for instance, I will never settle for something that is out of the box, so to speak. I will have to recreate them to show my personal style. This is why personalized invitations for me are truly ingenious. Just like the showered couple invite, that for me has panache. It is out of the ordinary, yet straight to the point and has a design that catches ones attention. Or the belly girl baby shower invitations to make my point clearer…it is simple, has a girly-girl aura yet sophisticated with its minimalistic design. Then again, it is also straight forward. It’s as though, the words in the card are not really as important because the decor in itself gives it away. For all your customized invitation and other correspondence needs, visit Custom Creations by Leslie and you will find a whole range of beautiful designs to choose from.
