…Pinoy street food is one thing i truly miss especially here in Boston. way back in New York, you’ll bump into street food here and there. hotdogs, peanuts, tacos and burritos, Astoria’s famous Souvlaki, gyros…the works. i miss those too but not as much as i miss fishballs and squidballs dunked in sweet and spiCy dipping sauce! *drooling*! here!!!! and this is what this week is all about…STREET FOOD.
but let me deviate from our usual PHOTOGRAPHY meme this time, as I have the pleasure to introduce you to…

FISHBALLZinc…this is M’s work in progress. but feel free to browse about it here on Facebook for now. and if you’re at it, you can be a fan too. now..if you’re really really at it, go ahead and spread the word!!!:) this will be very much appreciated. here’s a sneak peek of what you’ll expect on the page. the main characters. meet…

In any or most Filipino parties, there’s almost always PANCIT or Noodles. This one is Pancit Bihon, one of the most preferred type of noodle dishes served in any gathering. truly PINOY. YUM!

…and of course let’s not forget the PORK BBQ!!! double YUM!!!!

“Beans, Beans, the Musical Fruit” is a schoolyard saying and children’s song about the capacity for beans to contribute to flatulence.[1] The song is also variously known as “Beans, Beans, the Miracle Fruit” and “Beans, Beans, the Wonderful Fruit”. One variation of the song is titled “Beans, Beans, They’re Good for Your Heart.”[source: Wiki]
BEANS in my burrito. i like! [not too much though, haha!] i had to specifically give proper instructions to have them in a separate bowl since M doesn’t want his burrito with beans. they were from Chipotle, where i first learned to appreciate rice and tortilla eaten together! lol! we used to have them in New York, street food fashion. i wasn’t much of a fan although they were authentic [read: made by true blood Mexicans lol!] the ones from Chipotle were humongous, good for 2 and deliciously spiCy, the way i want it!:)
is a weekly thematic FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY meme, Pinoy style! eat your beans!:)

…again, this was made by my daughter, S. out of the box, yes. but she prepared them on her own! not steamed as how we usually make PUTO [rice cakes], but i helped her stash ‘em in the oven. quick, easy..instant craving satiated!

…di pa siya nakuntento…nilagyan pa ng kaunting red food color ang 2nd batch!:) and of course i’ve had a too much of ‘em, so much so that i just might need some diet pills after! yikes!

…generously sprinkled with freshly grated parmigiano reggiano a.k.a. parmesan cheese, this Spaghetti alla Puttanesca imitation turned out really delicious! made with linguine instead and without the capers but with the luxury of meat and of course tomatoes and olives.
as it was known, this pasta was originally made for a group of friends who came in heavily starved one night in a famous Italian restaurant, but the owners ran out of ingredients and so made something out of what was available then…olives, capers and tomatoes. the 3 main components in making Puttanesca. my version….with a sprinkling of lots and lots of fresh basil and fresh cheese!!!!

Spaghetti alla puttanesca (whore’s spaghetti) is a spicy, tangy and somewhat salty Italian pasta dish that culinary experts regard as modern and reflects the bounty of the market rather than the garden. The ingredients are inexpensive, easy to find and typically Mediterranean. Italians refer to the sauce as sugo alla puttanesca. [source:wiki]

Sardines…as they say is one poor man’s meal. maybe. not so when it is cooked the way M did a few weekends ago…think prawns, wonton noodles and fresh basil! could be something you will find in a fine dining restaurant even! don’t i just love having a very creative and great cook husband?

I recently celebrated my birthday. last wednesday to be exact. we had a shabu dinner with oodles and oodles of noodles, meat, seafood in delicious tom yum soup, cupcakes, pasta…and these are just some of the delicious and sinful food that we’ve partaken:) during that week.

now i feel like i am in dire need of a fat burning diet or pill whatsoever! yikes! plus the fact that i have been into beer-belly-inducing drink lately! double yikes!

We have already covered shopping for school stuffs and clothes for the kids. Whew! Except for a few items that needs to be dealt with soon since my daughter has been bugging me every single day about them. A padlock for her locker and a few pairs of new shoes. I think she has grown an inch or two during the past month already and so her foot size must have grown too. While i’m at it…i will also look at something like a pair of Dansko shoes for M!:)
Summer is the best time to move if we talk about convenience. But it is also the time when all rentals are sky high. As for our current situation, we are left hanging in mid air still. We have no choice but to wait for some word from the bank if we need to move out or not. Such luck huh? I just might as well consider checking out moving companies Los Angeles or Canada! if this doesn’t get any clearer soon! haaay!!!
Anyone who says sunshine brings happiness has never danced in the rain.
true. i, for one can attest to that. those days during my childhood when we always looked forward to heavy downpours if only to play out and marvel on the fun that it brings as soon as we get soaked. literally.
[thanks to lynn for that quote i plucked out of her FB status]
but i also learned how to value the beauty of warmer sun shiny weather, more so when we moved here in the US. summer for me now just comes a quarter of a whole year. all the more it is well appreciated.

after all, there are small and simple ways out there to counter the heat that the summer tags along….like CHILLED DRINKS! which qualify as a grand solution to defy that thirst.
for breakfast. a CHOCOLATE MILK SMOOTHIE. made by M for last week’s Sunday breakfast.

lunch. fresh WATERMELON SHAKE. still made by M one weekend. mah man truly knows how to quench his thirst, you see.

and for dinner [onwards:)]. mah tall glass of CHILLed KIRIN. what i had to CHILLax on my very recent Shabu birthday dinner.
