…it’s been a long time since we’ve been to Johnny Rockets. and i’m glad we did over the weekend. i missed eating in a feel-good hamburger chain reminiscent of old America. we first had a taste of this interesting restaurant back in New York. and so we had to try it again even though what we have here is just a segregated corner in a mall food court…still the quaint ambience is prevalent and the food is still good. unfortunately, we missed playing ‘Staying Alive’ this time because we requested for a bigger table and the only available one was at the corner that didn’t have this tiny jukebox…as some of you may know…when you play the said song with your 5 cents, all the wait staffs queue to do their signature hustle. it never fails to amaze the customers and even passers-by!:)

It is one staple food that will charm every Pinoy bread-lover’s soul…BREAD that is simply delicious and fresh. That’s our theme for this week’s Lasang Pinoy, Sundays!…and there’s just a whole lot of choices.
Bread is flour and water made into a dough then baked with or without a leavening agent…more commonly with yeast. Other components may include eggs, milk, salt, sugar even fruits, nuts, spiCes, vegetables and seeds. But I’m positive everyone will agree that there is nothing like our very own…Pan de Sal!
Shown above is [a rehash of] M’s freshly baked batch of…
rounded bread usually eaten by Filipinos during breakfast. It is a bread made of flour, eggs, lard, yeast, sugar, and salt. It has a soft, powdery texture and is eaten in a number of ways combined with numerous sandwich spreads. It is also used for dipping into tsokolate (chocolate), a chocolate drink very much like hot chocolate but with pure cocoa as its main ingredient. Despite the literal meaning of its name, the taste of pandesal varies from bland to slightly sweet.

…from the bread machine, it was rolled and cut into smaller equal parts, after an hour that it has doubled in volume. Then baked in the oven. Proudly, I tell ya my kids are big Pan de Sal lovers!

I, on the other hand…made this WHITE BREAD, which is a no fuss-no huss job. ¬† Again with the bread machine, you simply dump all ingredients inside, set the machine…and voila! fresh, crusty on the outside, soft as a pillow on the inside…home-made loaf!
[baker's call this inside part as the CRUMB, not to be mistaken as the powdery 'crumbs' and of course CRUST is the outer layer]
oh so good while fresh and warm… simply slathered with butter! Among all the breads that I have tried making on my won, I especially like tita Stel’s OATMEAL BREAD most, which has a distinctive chewy-ness and grainy texture, that makes it more interestingly delicious.
is a weekly thematic FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY meme, PINOY style! …BREAD-y or not, here I come!
