…generously sprinkled with freshly grated parmigiano reggiano a.k.a. parmesan cheese, this Spaghetti alla Puttanesca imitation turned out really delicious! made with linguine instead and without the capers but with the luxury of meat and of course tomatoes and olives.
as it was known, this pasta was originally made for a group of friends who came in heavily starved one night in a famous Italian restaurant, but the owners ran out of ingredients and so made something out of what was available then…olives, capers and tomatoes. the 3 main components in making Puttanesca. my version….with a sprinkling of lots and lots of fresh basil and fresh cheese!!!!
Spaghetti alla puttanesca (whore’s spaghetti) is a spicy, tangy and somewhat salty Italian pasta dish that culinary experts regard as modern and reflects the bounty of the market rather than the garden. The ingredients are inexpensive, easy to find and typically Mediterranean. Italians refer to the sauce as sugo alla puttanesca. [source:wiki]
is a weekly thematic FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY meme, Pinoy style! this btw, was still part of my birthday pow-wow and also for my late mama. we happen to have 1 day in between our special days. and a cousin recently enlightened me about how i must have been the best birthday blessing she ever received on her birthday then!:) a gazillion years ago! yikes! haha!
Anyone who says sunshine brings happiness has never danced in the rain. true. i, for one can attest to that. those days during my childhood when we always looked forward to heavy downpours if only to play out and marvel on the fun that it brings as soon as we get soaked. literally. [thanks to [...]

true. i, for one can attest to that. those days during my childhood when we always looked forward to heavy downpours if only to play out and marvel on the fun that it brings as soon as we get soaked. literally.
[thanks to lynn for that quote i plucked out of her FB status]
but i also learned how to value the beauty of warmer sun shiny weather, more so when we moved here in the US. summer for me now just comes a quarter of a whole year. all the more it is well appreciated.

after all, there are small and simple ways out there to counter the heat that the summer tags along….like CHILLED DRINKS! which qualify as a grand solution to defy that thirst.
for breakfast. a CHOCOLATE MILK SMOOTHIE. made by M for last week’s Sunday breakfast.
lunch. fresh WATERMELON SHAKE. still made by M one weekend.  mah man truly knows how to quench his thirst, you see.
and for dinner [onwards:)]. mah tall glass of CHILLed KIRIN. what i had to CHILLax on my very recent Shabu birthday dinner.
…sweet potato. the musical fruit. the more you eat, the more you… talbos ng kamote in our native language. where is the root? cropped! lol! at the moment i cannot find the photo that shows the sweet potato itself. this is in fact what happened as i totally forgot i had one in the kitchen! [...]

talbos ng kamote in our native language. where is the root? cropped! lol! at the moment i cannot find the photo that shows the sweet potato itself. this is in fact what happened as i totally forgot i had one in the kitchen! never got into making anything out of it and so i just left it growing this way!:)
i am missing this bigger and brighter kitchen. but it would’ve been better if it were mostly shiny especially with stainless steel backsplash and countertops! very modern!
this is by far the easiest dessert that you can WHIP up whenever the need for a quick hit arises…warm brownie squares whether freshly baked or store-bought layered with scoops of ice cream…topped with WHIPped cream and garnished with whatever you fancy, chocolate shavings, powdered sugar, fresh fruit or sprinkles.¬† simple, delicious, beautiful!:) is a [...]

This may not be my favorite restaurant especially when i crave for seafood, but it poses to be a most eye-catching FOOD SIGN for a lobster spot, don’t you agree? Needless to say, we lurve LOBSTERS!… who doesn’t really? pardon me, i know i have posted a lot on these crustaceans, mostly home-cooked. still, i [...]

Needless to say, we lurve LOBSTERS!… who doesn’t really? pardon me, i know i have posted a lot on these crustaceans, mostly home-cooked. still, i opted for this photo on this week’s theme, even if it’s a little noisy.¬† too far and my hands are shaky from starvation! i guess. hee!
…the place is called The Weathervane, located in Kittery, Maine. My choice that day was something out of the ordinary. that would mean, not just steamed or grilled whole or cut in half…but one that looks like a pie. hence, it is called Lobster Pie!:)
…for the price, i must admit it’s not all worth the deviation from the humongous shellfish that i was accustomed to greeting me on my plate. taste-wise…a 6.5. overall…i told myself i can even do this myself! oh well…lesson learned. wicked, yes..if we talk about the come-on signage.¬† cheap? not at all.

One of the distinct food preparations that set Filipinos apart from
other culture would be having lechon on the table during special
occasions.
Lechon meat is succulent. The juice oozing from the meat is flavorful
and even smells good, particularly if lemongrass was part of the
preparation process.
I remember the times I feasted on lechon ribs, nomnoming the tasty pork.
Succulent also best describe pork being cooked as an “aftermath” of
lechon: lechon kawali, lechon paksiw and humba.
Ok now, bring on the lechon but don’t forget your glass of red wine or
cup of warm tea after enjoying the feast.

This week’s theme is all about alcoholic beverages, be it wine, beer or spirits… or any alcohol infused food, at that.¬† I still prefer wine among the three general classes.
…specifically, WHITE ZINFANDEL. between a red and a white,¬† i fancy the otherwise in between rosey color of a Zin and the fact that it is not as dry and tart but sweet enough for my taste bud. i may even consider cross country moving just to be near this beloved wine!
an off-dry to sweet, pink-colored rosé wine. White Zinfandel is made from the Zinfandel wine grape, which would otherwise produce a bold and spicy red wine. As such, it is not a grape variety but a method of processing Zinfandel grapes.[source:WIKI]
…now, if we talk about food with a sprinkling or more of alcohol…what tops my list is one that is literally a pick-me-upper! a slice of TIRAMISU. i’ve made a number of tiramisu variations in the past, with or without the alcoholic content. but this one is store bought. the cheapest one there is i think, selling for less than $3 for one 8×8 square. good enough for a sudden rum-flavored rich and creamy dessert or snack craving.
is a weekly thematic FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY meme, Pinoy style! Btw, this is just a prelude to our upcoming theme WE are ONE! next Sunday…as we turn ONE! [HINT: anything that is ONE, FIRST, the number ONE...just about what you can post with these words in mind!] Enjoy and CHEERS!
