Lasang Pinoy, Sundays: One Fine Dining
March 21, 2009 at 11:00 am , by Ces
This Sunday is revolving around dining in style and taste with higher quality materials like white linens, fine china, crystal wine glasses, candle lights, wait staffs in formal attire and of course glorious food. In this manner, we give special attention to ambience. On another note, fine dining is also highly associated with full course meals. This would include bite size fruits for starters, appetizers, soup, salad, the entree served with rice or bread and vegetables to dessert served with tea or coffee and lastly some cookies or nuts served with another drink.
As I have googled, there is no definitive meaning of the words FINE DINING. It is subjective as they say, depending on personal taste and can be guided by the quality of food, service and atmosphere. I cannot find any specific guideline regarding this. Hence, I am leaving it all up to you to help me come up with a more accurate description.
I myself, found it a little difficult to post my own photo, so I borrowed the first 2 from my sister, taken during her wedding. The fact that we rarely go to fine dining restaurants nowadays make up for this inadequacy. I am positive that most of you will agree with me that these would be over the top excessiveness and beyond reason if done on a whim during this dwindling economy. That doesn’t mean we cannot have one though. What we normally have are special nights of fine dining experience in the comfort of our own home such as this last photo. Once I am in the mood for making out of the ordinary meals, not necessarily luxurious, what follows is a nicely done tablescape wherein my finer china and wine glasses, add to that the silver chargers come into good use…as opposed to everyday plastic or paper plates and cups!
I do wish you all a fine Sunday and week ahead! Cheers!

I so love your sister’s table setting – very elegant! Yup, do agree that fine dining seems excessive especially during these times of global recession but yes, it wouldn’t hurt to indulge once in a while – especially when celebrating special occasions.
A fine Sunday to you! Mwah!

[...] La.Pi.S One would picture a stylish clad dinner atmosphere upon hearing ‘fine dining’. But as Ces puts it: It is subjective as they say, depending on personal taste and can be guided by the quality of food, service and atmosphere. Fine dining for us (husband and I) means only one thing: food. We would sit down and eat even at the market as long as the food served meet our demanding palates. [...]

Wow Ces! Your sister’s table is so elegant! I love the flower arrangement and the favors! Too cute!
We can’t take out our fine china since all of them have been shipped to the Philippines so we don’t have fancy shmancy dinners here…lol but your table scape is glorious!
BTW I’ll email you the html file that I used for the gallery

Wish I could do fine dining at home…
Food can always be a bit luxurious but the table setting never ends up fine with the kiddo messing around hahaha! (But we always use fine dinnerware everyday, my kitchen storage space is so limited whatever we have we use hehehe)

[...] Fine dining is something we don’t usually do, especially if we are the ones who will foot the bill. Yes, its that expensive on this side of the planet. Truth is, I would rather try (very hard) cooking food fit for fine-dining and serve these at home [...]

Fine dining is fun but when we consider the expense, I guess we can have even more fun without parting with more moolah than we care to let go
Yes, it is subjective and is a personal preference.
And yes, we can do this at home once in a while
My post is up!
Have a great week,everyone!

I really need to learn from you guys about setting tables. I’m so unimaginative when it comes to prettying things up. Your place settings look so elegant.
I couldn’t find a schmancy picture to post this week
kasi pag lumalabas kami, we always forget to bring a camera. lol! You can tell we don’t get out much.
