Lasang Pinoy, Sundays Week#24: Go Green!

November 22, 2008 at 11:35 am , by Ces

star-fruit
…we were at the Asian Supermarket last weekend and found this. a fruit that my kids haven’t tried yet. and S was kinda intrigued i guess, with it’s fancy shape. she actually liked it. as for me, i was a little nostalgic when i saw the star fruit or balimbing as we call it. did you know that it is also called CARAMBOLA? i didn’t hehe…some also refer to it as five finger.
…anyway, we ate it a couple of days since we bought it and it naturally started turning yellow greenish already. but boy did it bring back good ‘ol memories when i finally let my teeth sink in to the sweet ribs of the fruit! i’ve always had balimbing when i was a kid and it’s been decades i suppose since i last had one! geesh!

okay! nuff said…for our theme this week, anything GREEN! go get those camera’s rolling and GO GREEN!

LaPiS-go-green is a themed weekly FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY meme, PINOY style! have fun and enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Would you believe I’ve never even tried this ever? Though I remember this from my lola’s plastic fruit tray when I was a kid.

Guess it’s better to like a balimbing than be one, right? ;) Hehehe

Happy weekend, Ces!

I was thinking too what a nice cutter you have to make that shape. :) Balimbing pala. Haven’t had a taste of it for a long time now. I posted my own Green too. :)

You might find it weird but I’ve never tasted Balimbing before. When I was young, my neighbor had a Balimbing tree. My playmates and I would get some from the tree and use them as one of our ingredients in our “luto lutuan” but I’ve never thought of tasting it.

My greens are up!

I remember balimbing, its a little sour and it tickles the inside of your mouth. We don’t get to see those fruits anymore, I think. I may have to scour that and show to the kids before it gets “extinct”
