WALK the TALK

I suddenly miss my lola, my grandmother who is back in the Philippines. It’s been 4 years since I last saw her and it wasn’t exactly a very happy one since that last time, she was already suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Knowing her as a happy person but with the disease and all, I feel sorry now that we used to just joke about her forgetting all our names, who I am married to, how many children I have, saying things over and over and stuffs like that. Now I realize the disease is no joke at all. After reading the book and watching the movie entitled “The Notebook”, it’s hard to imagine being in such a situation especially the thought of your very own spouse not remembering who you are.
The very reason why when I learned about the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk, I had that strange feeling that I should do something about this. If I cannot be there for my grandmother, at least I can blog about a special fight against the disease that she has, a walk which is a special event to raise awareness and some funds for Alzheimer care, how to live with it, how to support an Alzheimer’s patient and research about the disease, and it is calling us all to do some volunteering to help in the fight against it. About 600 communities will be participating all around the country and it is a typical 2-3 mile walk that will be held on a weekend morning in the coming fall. Anybody can join and even participate to be a team captain. This is my way of participating and I promise I will try to WALK my TALK for my granny, for all the people suffering from the disease and for a driven purpose to help in moving a world without Alzheimer’s! Let me hear from you when you’ve done your own WALK!
